S6 maths tutoring: what S6 maths covers and how parents can help

The main content of S6 maths, where students most often get stuck, what parents can do at home, and what tutoring costs.

What does S6 maths cover?

In Education Bureau syllabus order; your school may teach them in a slightly different order.

Where students most often get stuck

  • Measures of dispersion: standard deviation, interquartile range and box-and-whisker diagrams.
  • Long Section B questions in Paper 1 use results from earlier parts.
  • Paper 2 has 45 questions in only 75 minutes, about 100 seconds each.

How can parents help at home?

  • Do full papers under exam timing to practise managing time.
  • After each paper, record why marks were lost and on which question types.
  • In the last month before the exam, focus on mistakes and formulas, not new hard questions.

How much does S6 maths tutoring cost?

Typical private tutoring rates are about $180–220 (university students) to 480+ (serving teachers) an hour (that platform's published 2026 fee guide). Group classes at tutoring centres usually cost less per student. Before signing up, see the five questions in the maths tutoring guide.

  • Peace of mind for parents: no personal details, no ads, and progress is stored only on your device.

Frequently asked questions

Does a S6 student need a tutor?

Not every student does. If your child can finish homework and understands their own mistakes, short daily practice is enough. If they lose marks on the same kind of question in several tests in a row, it is worth getting help, or first using free online practice to find the weak spots.

Does Sprout have a S6 course?

The S6 course is being prepared. Learn mode is open for P1 to P6 and S4 now, and key points and examples for Form 6 maths topics are free to read.
