- The formulas for arithmetic and geometric sequences, and "sum" word problems.
- Linear programming: drawing the feasible region correctly.
- Permutations and combinations: use permutations when order matters, combinations when it does not.
How can parents help at home?
- Start past-paper questions topic by topic to learn how the DSE asks them.
- Break long questions apart and see how the answer to (a) is used in (b).
- Plan an S6 revision timetable together with your child.
How much does S5 maths tutoring cost?
Typical private tutoring rates are about $180–220 (university students) to 480+ (serving teachers) an hour (that platform's published 2026 fee guide). Group classes at tutoring centres usually cost less per student. Before signing up, see the five questions in the maths tutoring guide.

Frequently asked questions
Does a S5 student need a tutor?
Not every student does. If your child can finish homework and understands their own mistakes, short daily practice is enough. If they lose marks on the same kind of question in several tests in a row, it is worth getting help, or first using free online practice to find the weak spots.
Does Sprout have a S5 course?
The S5 course is being prepared. Learn mode is open for P1 to P6 and S4 now, and key points and examples for Form 5 maths topics are free to read.
